Abstract

This paper is concerned with placing the phenomenon of emigration from India and Pakistan to Britain in context, briefly reviewing studies of the connexion between migration and mental illness in the individual migrants. Secondly, a survey of problems encountered by Indians and Pakistanis will be made by means of an analysis of letters written by these migrants to the Hindustani language pro- grammes of the British Broadcasting Corporation.
