Abstract

In spite of the recent advancement in the treatment of diabetes mellitus, the number of patients suffering from diabetic retinopathy seem to be increasing. Treatment of diabetic retinopathy was far from satisfactory in the past. Recently with the introduction of photocoagulation and vitrectomy, the majority of the patients can enjoy their preserved vision for extended period of time. The natural course and the types of the diabetic retinopathy, and their treatment are presented. © 1984, Japanese Society of National Medical Services. All rights reserved.
