Abstract

Many pregnant women who present to a hospital triage area, office, or clinic setting, or seek advice from a midwife by telephone, require early labor assessment. This article reviews parameters for normal and abnormal latent phase labor and discusses triage assessment and management strategies for the patient in latent phase labor. © 1999 by the American College of Nurse-Midwives.
