Aquatic Botany, vol. 49, issue 2-3 (1994) pp. 193-196
During the summer of 1993 large areas of clear water have persisted for months in the turbid shallow lakes Wolderwijd and Veluwemeer (Netherlands). The areas coincide with submerged plant stands dominated by Chara contraria A. Braun ex K??tzing. These observations show that the two contrasting states that have been described as alternative equilibria for shallow lakes, a turbid state and a clear vegetation dominated one, can actually coexist within a lake. ?? 1994.
