This chapter evaluates that vision is not the only source of information that individuals can use to facilitate manual aiming. Proprioceptive information from the neck also enhances pointing accuracy. Data are presented that show eye and head temporal organization is altered when limb movements are added to the visuomotor system. The role of head movement in limb pointing accuracy may play a role in this reorganization. Despite variability in the movement initiation patterns of the eyes, head, and hand, the eyes still reach the target in enough time to use visual information regarding target position, to amend the reaching response. Thus, it appears that the coordination of the eyes, head, and hand may be based on the visual processing requirements of the manual task. Initiation timing across experiments appeared to be affected by the goal of the intended reach (pointing or grasping). This may reflect the ability of the grasping motor system to utilize feedback online more efficiently and is another example in which the coordination of the visuomotor system is influenced by the visual processing demands of the task.
