Abstract

The article discusses the idea of new literacies from information and communication technologies (ICT) and using ICT in the curriculum for teaching writing and communication to adolescent students. The rationale for new literacies in language arts instruction, standards for literacy and technology that are related to new literacies, and changes in written communication are discussed. Integrating instruction with the Internet and writing communities such as authors' websites is also discussed. Information is given about online writing resources and author websites. How instant messaging and text messaging can be used in education is mentioned.
