Abstract

(1) The discourse concerning sport science makes the images and/or myths of sport and science begin to work.(2) The term supōtsu-kagaku or sport science publicly appeared in 1960s in Japan. We can find, however, the scientific attention to sports or physical movements already around 1900. A remarkable organization of the knowledge of sport science was realized in 1930s at the National Institute of Physical Education. The main research of the science was sports medicine, so the sport science used to be a field of medicine at the dawn of research in 1930s.(3) In Japan, the conception of taiiku or "physical education" has been an ideal regarding so -called physical culture including sports ever since the culture was introduced from abroad. The field of sport science was born in the genealogy of the research of physical education. In the development of sport science, the idea = ideology = illusion of "physical education" is active to this day.
