Abstract

A number of virtual schools have emerged in Australia and North America in recent years. These schools use online computers to replace or supplement some or all of a student's face-to-face education. This paper discusses the issues of flexibility, socialisation, teacher certification and training, student supervision, school accountability, course availability, and student selection. It explores these issues to consider the advantages and disadvantages of different types of virtual schools.
