Optimisation is an important phase of analogue circuit design that should ideally be automated because it is the most time-consuming part of the design cycle. Even if topology selection is not included in the automation process, a software program that is capable of optimising the circuit would off-load a lot of the responsibility from the analogue design engineer. The designer will have more time to think about the global solution and leave the optimisation task to the program. This current work has implemented a system whereby an analogue circuit can be automatically adjusted and tailored according to the input specifications. Given a working configuration, the optimiser will explore the design space to produce a circuit that matches the specification as closely as possible. The input specifications are defined in terms of the circuit performance. The program has been tested on some working analogue circuits and the results are reported here.
