Minneapolis author Brenda Ueland, dead since 1985, left behind a fine literary surprise in her home near Lake Harriet. Just a year ago, her daughter had moved out and the house was being prepared for an estate sale. In the cluttered basement, behind a heavy old washing machine, was a grimy cupboard. In that cupboard were about 20 copies of a typewritten manuscript.
