Abstract

The discovery of the 'ozone hole' over the Antarctic region spurred the international community to limit the use of substances which deplete atmospheric ozone. This paper outlines the development of international concern about ozone depletion, and explains the formulation and likely impact of the Montreal Protocol, the key document for phasing out chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) production and usage.
