Abstract

The background to the development of policy for coastal and marine management is outlined, including increasing intensification of coastal land and sea uses, leading to more use conflicts and deterioration of water quality. The data bases for management are briefly discussed before recent innovations are considered, including environmental evaluation as a basis for physical planning applied for example to fishery areas. © 1992.
