The exercise test is useful for determining a patient's working capacity and for identifying such problems as fatigue, angina, and arrhythmias that may be induced by exertion. However, important information must also be obtained from the history and physical examination, including knowledge of medications patients are taking, as well as the associated potential hazards of these drugs.
