A method is described which allows a rapid, direct, gas chromatographic headspace analysis to be made on capillary columns. The procedure incorporates a simple concentration stage, on a conventional packed pre-column, such that minor components present in headspace vapours can be detected. The method is illustrated by reference to tobacco and other samples of plant origin. © 1981.
