Abstract

To most people, downsizing is synonymous with termination. When large-scale termination occurs, a number of questions surfaces. However, blaming any particular group, managers and the ones managed, will not provide any answers. Both management and its associated professionals at all levels participate in creating a situation where mediocrity is an acceptable level of performance. The reasons can be classified into two categories, those due to management malpractice and those due to professional indifference.
