THE GENUS RHANTUS DEJEAN INSECTA COLEOPTERA DYTISCIDAE I. RHANTUS-RUFUS ZIMMERMANN 1922 POSITION WITHIN THE GENUS RHANTUS HISTORICAL ASPECTS AND NOTES ON DISTRIBUTION

Abstract

The present paper discusses the systematic position of Rhantus rufus ZIMMERMANN, 1922 within the genus Rhantus DEJEAN including both a historical review and distributional notes, showing Rhantus rufus and Rh. latitans SHARP, 1882 to be sibling species. Finally, an extended diagnosis is added to facilitate the differentiation between these taxa.
