Abstract

This paper reports a study of hesitation phenomena in English speech. A description of 7 types of hesitation phenomena is made and each of the 7 types discussed individually and in comparison with one another. The results and implications of the study are compared with those of related studies. There is a discussion with particular reference to function words.
