Abstract

Published data are reviewed and it is concluded that about one fertilized ovum in three perishes before pregnancy is recognised. Of those surviving until pregnancy is recognized, one in four or five perish before term. So spontaneous loss accounts for about one fertilized ovum in two in a medically advanced society. © 1970 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
