Abstract

The area considered lies between the Swedish border and the coast of Trondelag and More og Romodal. Inland, the major landscape features are pre-Quaternary; glacial erosion was severe in the coastal margin. The mountains have blockfields and other periglacial features, but they cannot have been ice-free at the Weichselian maximum. Moraines on the continental shelf date at 12 400 to 13 000 yr BP. The Younger Dryas advance limit is mapped. 14C dates are reported, and ice marginal deltas and the isobases of the Younger Dryas sea level are mapped. Deposits associated with the fjord environment, including 'Tronder' moraines are described; quick clay slides are a contemporary hazard.-K.Clayton
