Abstract

•There is no one type of leadership or organizational structure in radiology. Understanding which types of leader and organization you have is a first step in understanding how to thrive.•There is often a significant disconnect between the stated way an organization is structured and how it actually works. You have to pay attention to both the nominal and actual if you are to succeed as a leader or participant.•Types of leadership in organizations have their pros and cons. In each case, consider both the opportunity to change the structure of the organization and how to best optimize the function of your organization's type. © 2010 American College of Radiology.
