Abstract

We investigate the reflection properties of electromagnetic/optical waves in isotropic lossless and lossy chiral media. When the chiral parameter is strong enough, we show that an unusual negative reflection occurs at the interface between a chiral medium and a perfectly conducting plane, where the incident wave and one of the reflected eigenwaves lie in the same side of the interface normal. Using such a property, we further demonstrate the focusing ability of such a conducting plane in the strong chiral medium. © 2007 American Institute of Physics.
