Abstract

The Institute of Industrial Archaeology, sponsored jointly by Birmingham University and the Ironbridge Gorge Museum, accepted its first Diploma students in 1982. The circumstances of the founding of the one‐year post‐graduate diploma course in Industrial Archaeology are explained, and the principal elements of the course are outlined. Other shorter courses, organized by the Institute, have attracted manufacturers and wholesalers, as well as museum staff, conservation architects, and engineers. © 1983 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
