Abstract
A phenomenological description of the night airglow is presented, reviewing the historical background, and what is known about height, temporal and spatial variations in intensity, and movements. The very important relationship to aurora and evidence for latitude-seasonal effects are examined. © 1959, IEEE. All rights reserved.
