With development of marine electric propulsion and the increasing of the power capacity, higher performance was required for the marine DC air circuit breaker than before. Short-circuit breaking capacity and electronic over-current protection were focused on. Based on the prototype of marine ZDS DC air circuit breaker, the design of electronic overcurrent protection was studied. The current detection system, control unit and DC converter were designed. By virtue of the breaking test of the overcurrent protection, the performance of the prototype was validated. The tset results show that the accuracy, adjusting range and reliability of the electronic overcurrent protection described in this paper is better than the previous ones. The electronization and modularization of marine DC air circuit breaker, together with its engineering design can benefit from the work in this paper.
