Objective: To explore the personality of the young new prisoners. Methods: The Cattell's Sixteen Personality Factor Test was used to identify the differences of personality traits between young new prisoners and young students. It also compared the different personalities in three groups of different ages. Results: Six personality traits (B, E, H, I, O, Q2) and two secondary personality factors (X2, X4) and one practical personality factor (Y1) had significant differences between young criminals and young students. It also showed that young criminals' personality traits were different with the age factor. Conclusion: The young new prisoners show lower personality level, and this result is of great value to guide the future research on the change of personality traits during different length of time in prison.
