Abstract

Beliefs about child sexual abuse in the United States are examined from an evolutionary, cross‐cultural, and developmental perspective. The lack of theoretical consensus in the field is noted and its effects evaluated. Recommendations regarding development of interdisciplinary professional standards and protocols are presented. 1992 American Orthopsychiatric Association
