Abstract

Neoshamanism is an emerging social phenomenon that combines forms and contents of indigenous shamanic practices with the needs of urban followers in search of social and psychological balance. In Italy there are many neoshamanic communities, most of which claim a relationship of direct spiritual affiliation with ancestral cults of indigenous peoples . We went to explore the phenomenon in Colombia, one of the countries where it arose and took more ground, and we followed the community of Mauro, an Italian shaman, to describe its way of life and the relationships that link him with his disciples . And we found that neoshamanism has little, very little to do with traditional shamanism.
