Originally published in Contemporary Psychology: APA Review of Books, 1981, Vol 26(4), 271. Reviews the book, Sexual Anxiety: A Study of Male Impotence by Eric Carlton (1980). This book's focus is on male impotence, with a sociological perspective on male sexuality. The author makes the point throughout his book that sociological perspectives complement rather than contradict psychological interpretations. The theories and techniques of therapeutic intervention is not particularly clear or helpful to the reader. This slim volume on sexual anxiety is off-target for its intended audience of intelligent laymen but has some sections that might be of interest to the professional in the sex therapy field.
