Abstract

The topic of this article is traffic planning and traffic planning methods and how they developed in Europe over three specific periods: before 1968, 1968-1979 and 1980-1990. Developments in traffic calming and speed management for some of the European countries are described by period, and each period is followed by a description of what went well and what went wrong. In conclusion, we look into the crystal ball to foretell the future on a retrospective basis. © 1992.
