Abstract

The combination method of TLC and UV spectroscopy is adapted as a Japan Oil Chem. Society std. method for the identification of rice bran oil. However, there is a difficulty to discriminate between refined rice bran oil and corn oil by this method. A GLC method was proposed as a simple method. Anal. of unsaponified materials by GLC (column, OV-17; column temp. 260.degree.) gave good results. Hydrocarbons and fatty alcs. were earlier detected and triterpenol later on the chromatogram. Cyclobranol was specifically detected in rice bran oil
