The 7Be2 dimer has been observed for the first time in an experiment aiming to perform 14C measurements by Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) using an ion source previously utilized for the production of a radioactive 7Be beam. It was found that detection of the undissociated dimer in the 3+ charge state simulates 14C, contributing significantly to the background in isotopic ratios measurements. ? 1998 Published by Elsevier Science B.V.
