This is a brief tutorial on compressive sampling, a recently developed technology originating with mathematicians Candes (Caltech), Tao (UCLA), and others. This method greatly reduces the number of digital samples required to reconstruct certain important physical signals. The key ideas of this technology are presented here, along with some indications of possible applications to geophysical problems.
