This paper argues, first, that utilitarianism, and particularly rule-utilitarianism, gives a reasonable answer to the question of what one should do to pursue a good life from the moral point of view (that is, the question of morality). And, second, that utilitarianism, at least in its traditional shape, because of its hedonistic and subjective theory of human motivation, gives an incorrect answer to the question of what one should do to achieve a good life from one's own point of view (that is, the question of prudential values).
