Reviews research literature on visual motion processing and sensory-motor integration for smooth pursuit eye movements. Focus is on experiments that have provided the facts upon which models of pursuit can be based. The mathematical model proposed would include elements, signals, and transformations identified by biological experimentation; and, when simulated on a computer, it could reproduce existing data on the performance of smooth pursuit. Evidence is presented that neural velocity memory is provided, in part, by eye velocity positive feedback between the flocculus of the cerebellum and the brain stem.
