A new method for the utilization of light energy through photochemical reactions in combination with electrochemical processes is described. The operation of a complete system involves the utilization of several electrochemical redox couples, at least one of which is photochemically sensitive. The theoretical background of the photo-electrochemical process is discussed and a possible power scheme is presented, together with some experimental results on single electrode reactions and on complete cells. © 1961.
