I give an additional argument that the proof of Perdew et al., stating that the highest occupied Kohn-Sham eigenvalue equals the ionization energy, is flawed. I also argue that the new proof given by Perdew and Levy in the preceding paper is wrong. The significance of the result for the two-electron “Hooke’s atom” is then discussed. © 1997 The American Physical Society.
