Abstract

The mean percentage differences between immediately preoperative and immediately postoperative hemoglobin concentrations were 17.7, 10.8, 10.4, and 6.4% for rheumatoid arthritis patients undergoing Shiers arthroplasty, supracondylar osteotomy, MacIntosh arthroplasty, and synovectomy of the knee joint respectively. These differences underline the importance of monitoring hemoglobin values preoperatively.
