relative time period: Encompasses the Upper Paleolithic and the Pleistocene/Holocene transition. Follows the East Asian Middle Paleolithic tradition and precedes the Peiligang tradition. More than one chronometric date is reported for the Ordosian sites discussed here. Most of these dates were obtained more than 20 years ago before new quantitative techniques were refined to the point they are today. Because it is now possible to date some loess sediments, the chronology of the Chinese Paleolithic in this region is currently in a dynamic state.
