Abstract

Sediment formation and transport are defined and references are made to its deposition in inland dykes, channels, shorefront, beach and sea by nature or by man's activities. The institutional constaints as practised in the U.S.A. are disucussed. The consequences of the bases for criteria judgements for the removal of some sediments may benefit some people and not others. Different criteria are proposed for removal or non removal of sediments, and the outcomes discussed. (A.J.)
