Abstract

A numerical model for the flexural vibrations of rectangular isotropic and orthotropic plates is developed, in order to investigate transient response of impacted plate. The established model, referred to a modified Hertzian contact law, has been validated and used to study the influence of different impact parameters. The obtained results are in good agreement with those given with the finite element simulations. The validated model has been used to study the distribution of the stress field and its evolution under the effect of the different impact parameters. © Springer Science + Business Media B.V. 2009.
