Abstract

The cultural landscape located in urban public open areas is under strongest pressure, especially in developing countries. This thesis chooses Shichahai Historical Area, the biggest public waterfront area in the heart of Beijing's old town, as the case study. Through examining the unique regional landscape, the thesis tries to probe into some reasonable and feasible measures for the conservation and development of urban cultural landscape which is facing the stress of rapid modern development. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2013.
