The gynaecological management of girls with DSD begins in the neonatal period at the time of diagnosis, when there is an opportunity to talk to parents about long-term issues as well as assist in surgical treatment. In adolescence, the gynaecologist has an increasingly important role in general psychosocial and sexual counselling, as well as management of any anatomical or functional issues of the internal and external female genitalia.
