Aggregation-induced emission (AIE) luminogens (AIEgens) are emerging as a new class of luminescent materials for bioimaging. They are usually with excellent optical properties, appreciable biocompatibility and thus have been used extensively for cell imaging and sensing by employing conventional fluorescence microscopy and confocal microscopy. Recently, their applications in advanced imaging techniques such as super-resolution imaging, fluorescence lifetime imaging (FLIM), and fluorescence anisotropy imaging (FAIM) have been explored and successfully demonstrated. In this chapter, we select some representative examples to illustrate the explorations and discoveries in this area.
