Abstract

In this chapter there is a detailed description of the functional anatomy of the human brain, from the molecular and cellular level up to the production of higher cognitive function. The description includes gross and fine anatomy and cytoarchitecture, biochemistry, and neurotransmitter pathways and interaction among structures and mechanisms. There is also an attempt to interpret and to synthesize separate but not independent functions in the frame of the mind as a product of brain function, and this is considered both in its historical and politico-social frame as well.
