Abstract

There are three main overlapping classification schemes for aquifers that are potential water sources in arid and semiarid lands. (1) Hydraulic properties and the properties of adjoining confining strata (e.g., confined, unconfined). (2) Geographical and topographic extent of their flow systems (e.g., local, regional). (3) Predominant lithology or deposition environment (e.g., alluvial, fractured rock).
