Abstract

Huge quantities of mine waters are discharged to the rivers from Krivoy Rog iron ore mines in the south of Ukraine. At present, the project of these mine waters discharge into the Black Sea is worked out. The problem of this discharge environmental impact assessment is of great interest. One of the branches of this problem is the prediction of the sea pollution in the case of mine waters discharge. Numerical model to calculate the sea point pollution in the case of the mine waters discharge was developed. The model is based on the 3D equations of potential flow and pollutant dispersion. The implicit difference schemes were used for the numerical integration of the governing equations. New type of arrangement for the mine waters discharge into the sea was developed. © Springer Science+Business Media Dordrecht 2013.
