Abstract

The economics of a hydropower plant is quite different from that of any other type of power plant since various considerations such as water supply, irrigation and river navigation are involved besides regular economic aspects of cost of generated power. In fact, some of these aspects, such as effect on irrigation or recreation facilities are difficult to quantify. Hence, true economic analysis of a hydro power plant, especially a large hydro power plant, is a mix of quantitative and qualitative approaches. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2011.
