Introduction. The relevance of the study of the life plans of young people is that in today's dynamically changing conditions of development of our society, it is necessary to identify strategies for their behavior, both in the labor sphere and beyond. The difficulties faced by future engineers in the labor market force them to change their life plans, despite the existing priorities. Research methodology and methods. The study was conducted on the basis of the Moscow aviation Institute (NIU), which involved 250 students of the 2nd-5th year, studying in bachelor's and specialty areas. A questionnaire survey was used as the research method. Research result. The study showed that the majority of undergraduate students (60%) plan to continue their master's studies in the same specialty. Students enrolled in specialty programs are less likely to continue their studies (42%) than bachelors. Future engineers (more 70%) would like to associate their work with the specialty they receive at the University. Their priority is in the area of commercial companies (about 40%), not state-owned enterprises (27,5%). Most respondents will be ready to go abroad if they are offered a job in their specialty. For future engineers, as well as for many other young people, financial security (70%) and family (49%) are important. Discussion of results. If future engineers fail to find a job in their specialty, they will be ready to leave for related industries or find a job in another field. In this regard, it is necessary to improve professional orientation work with students in higher education institutions, as well as to improve the material conditions for young professionals in enterprises. Conclusion. The life plans of future engineers are quite flexible. Despite the desire to work in engineering, they are ready to consider various options for professional implementation.
