Abstract

With the help of Geographic Information System (ArcGIS), the operation situation of the rainwater drainage system of a selected area is simulated by the integration RS technology into InfoWorks CS. The "bottleneck" of the pipe network is found out. Enlarging some pipes diameter and adding intercepting pipe have been proposed to improve the discharge ability of the rainwater drainage system according to the characteristics of regional flat. The result shows that the overflow of the whole drainage system is reduced obviously and it is reduced up to 83.49% for a half-year return period of rainfall. Our result indicates the importance of optimization and reconstruction of urban drainage network. © 2011 Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg.
