Abstract

The current Virtual Learning Environments (VLEs) are significantly successful in empowering the organization of e-learning, however, lacking in giving personalization in learning. The plan of most VLEs is the course and instructor driven and not intended for students to build up individual pathways in learning. New transformative services, administrations, and modern technologies are now being used with learning. This paper gives a model of how the Personal Learning Environment (PLE) and VLE can mesh together for an enhanced e-learning environment with the support of modern technologies. The model has introduced some novel concepts to enhance existing VLE such as Fellows-Inspired Learning (FIL), the Extent of Friendship (EoF) scheme for friends’ suggestion, real-time querying support, and Scavenge (an enhanced search system) with e-learning environment. A prototype implementation of the proposed learning environment is also presented in this paper.
